Vintage French Couture
Vintage couture ensemble by Marguerite Ranna. Soft butter yellow cashmere. Ensemble of hat, jacket, skirt and self belt. The hat is a soft brimmed cloche with a bow and spiral quilt stitching throughout. The jacket has oversize peaked lapels and an hourglass silhouette. The edge to edge front is joined with a pair of Bakelite buttons ala cufflinks. Short cuffed sleeves are ideal with long evening gloves. Lined in silk crepe in matching yellow. The straight skirt is unlined and has "Tortaz" woven into the selvedge. Expertly made with hook and snap closure. A matching cloth belt with quilt stitching also closes with a small hidden hook. This exceptional rare ensemble comes to us from an estate of a beautiful French aristocrat, Ballet dancer and English Duchess. Clothing from this estate is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art via us through gallery sale and also in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The condition of this set is good with some scattered moth nips and a couple of stains on the lapel. We have not treated the stains and they may very well come out. The lining under the arms has shattered over a small area. Bust 32"-34" Length 23" Waist 24" Hips 35 with some ease. Length 29"
