Product Details

Stunning 1930s silk twill cocktail dress in black, gray and white. The design is quite complex with a semi halter bust overlay criss crossing the bodice. The front of the skirt has two deep box pleats down the front. The dress fastens down the back with a zipper. The original owner was a ballerina with the Paris Ballet and the Duchess of Leeds. Clothing from her wardrobe is now in the Met (through us) and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This unlabelled piece hung alongside Schiaperelli's, Chanels of the 30s, Jacques Grif and numerous other designers. Norman Parkinson made a lovely photographic portrait of her which can be seen on his archive site. The condition is excellent. Bust 34" Waist 26" Hips 34"
