Exquisite 1932 Paul Lidvall tuxedo suit. Soft black wool with silk peak lapel. Exceptionally well tailored with a single button front. Fully lined in silk. Robust shoulder padding. Slit pockets. Wide leg pleated slacks with buckle back detail. One of the attractions of vintage clothing is the history behind garments and this piece has A HISTORY! Paul Lidvall was the last court tailor to the Tsars. His story is fascinating. He was able to become the official court tailor because of his skill as a bowler! He networked with members of the royal court at a St Petersburg bowling alley he frequented. Not only that he also participated in the first ever public game of hockey in Russia in 1898! Among his clients was the dandy Prince Felix Yusupov, who went on to murder Rasputin. The year prior to the date on this suit Lidvall published two books on the history and esthetics of men's suits. The guy's life was cinematic. To say this is a rare piece is an understatement. The condition is nearly perfect with a group of 4 very tiny moth nips on the back of the jacket being the only flaws.
